04.14.09 Spending On Web CMS Set To Increase By Mike Sachoff A new survey from the Aberdeen Group found that 42 percent of companies plan to increase their Web Content Management budgets this year. In a survey of 157 companies that were defined as "Best-in-Class" and which were not limited to ecommerce or online retail companies, it found that 77 percent of these companies had Web Content Management Systems that did not require updating from the IT department. In addition, 85 percent said one or more employees had responsibility for managing content in the system and 92 percent said they regularly track and analyze web traffic using their Web CMS. The survey respondents indicated that the top two marketing channels used to reach customers include their Web site (60%) and email marketing (47%). Over half (56%) of respondents indicated managing web content was a high priority in 2009.
"Web content management has the potential to transform the web into a more engaging intimate experience for visitors," said Ian Michiels, Research Director in Aberdeen's Customer Management Technology Group. "Leading organizations use of WCM continues to validate the value of WCM capabilities, even in newer areas like social media and rich media support."
