Open Text Addresses Mobile Content Management

By Doug Caverly

Enterprise content management specialist Open Text Corporation has branched out into the world of mobile devices. Open Text Corporation announced last week that it will sell mobile applications in the hopes of letting people increase their productivity.

The first application out of the gate is known as Open Text Everywhere. Its aim is nothing less than "to make the entire Open Text ECM Suite available via mobile devices," with a specific initial focus on the BlackBerry.

Other apps supporting other devices should then debut as the year progresses (though specific operating systems haven't yet been named), and mobile email management and mobile website content management apps are due in 2011.

Eugene Roman, Open Text's CEO, explained these moves by saying in a statement, "Business doesn't stop when we leave the desktop or the laptop. It's time to unleash business content, processes and applications to go wherever employees need them on a smartphone. Open Text Everywhere will let CIOs extend the productivity power of mobility across their business."

This seems like a wise decision as smartphones become more and more popular and the end of the recession is giving people an opportunity to get ahead.
