Content Management News Update

Fierce Content Management is a weekly content management news update, which focuses on best practices for creating, storing and managing documents and information. The site says there are 23,000+ IT managers and executives who get Fierce Content Management via weekly email.

Ron Miller is involved and he recently ran a story on my wiki in law firms posts. I did notice that a few people came to the posts through this story so that is appreciated. They have latest news, special reports, event, white papers, webinars, and research. The research reports cost money but the rest seems free. There are other Fierce publications on various technical topics.

I especially liked the latest news items. There was an interesting report that links smaller vendors to lower buying risk. It says, "CMS Watch has found that lower cost ECM vendors are thriving and that there is actually more buyer risk associated with choosing a large vendor because of the likelihood it may make substantive changes to the product more often. These large changes force customers to retool."

The complete CMS Watch report names IBM, EMC, and Microsoft in the large firm category. I had not heard of any of the mid-market to smaller firms they listed but I do not claim to be really current on the ECM market. I am assuming this is old school ECM and the large vendors provide more feature rich offerings and therefore change is harder.

However, I wonder what is happening with SaaS solutions and the sheltering of customers from re-tooling through enterprise 2.0 solutions?
