Gartner Publishes Magic Quadrant For Web Content Management

Article Date: 2010-09-28 One of the most respected research firms around has named what it believes to be the top companies in the entire field of Web content management. Gartner gave five organizations an extra special place in its famous "magic quadrant" earlier this month.
If you're not familiar with the concept, Gartner forms its magic quadrant by ranking companies according to both their ability to execute and their completeness of vision. Then the positions of all the firms are plotted in a square where the top right corner is generally the most sought-after spot.
Autonomy, FatWire Software, Open Text, Oracle, SDL, and Sitecore all came nearest to the top right corner in Gartner's latest rankings. That means they qualify as leaders, according to Gartner.
Gartner's report explained, "They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clear vision. They have strong channel partners, a presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. In addition, they dominate in one or more technologies or vertical markets. Leaders are aware of the 'ecosystem' into which their own offerings need to fit."
Impressive, eh? It really sounds like these are companies consumers should try to do business with and other firms should learn from.
Then, if you're curious, Gartner classified IBM and Microsoft as challengers and Clickability, CoreMedia, Day Software, Ektron, and EPiServer as visionaries. About the Author:
